About Us

We are a volunteer collaboration of organizations and experts committed to modernizing disease classification in the U.S. This partnership brings together leaders from academia, health data organizations, professional associations, clinical practice, and policy to explore modernization and related innovations, implementation, and policy challenges.

Tomorrow's Healthcare

  • Demonstrating how modern classification architecture linking terminology to classification through semantic networks and post-coordination creates new possibilities for clinical care, research, and population health.

  • Showcasing how AI and automation reduce burden while improving data quality and clinical utility.

Building on Experience

  • Learning from the US experience with ICD-10-CM and early international ICD-11 implementations.

  • Addressing practical concerns about transition costs, training requirements, and workflow impacts raised through stakeholder feedback.

  • Exploring specific challenges in areas like social determinants of health, behavioral health, and health equity.

The Path Forward

  • Identifying research priorities, governance structures, and implementation strategies for US classification modernization.

  • Examining technology infrastructure requirements, change management approaches, and pathways that balance innovation with pragmatic concerns about burden and cost.
